February's Healthy Heart Tip of the Day:
Eat at Least 25 Grams of Fiber Daily~Reach for fiber rich food during your day. Soluble fiber in oats, beans and citrus fruits, like oranges, help to reduce "bad" LDL cholesterol levels. Choose whole grains, such as brown rice and whole-wheat pasta which boost your intake of total fiber and can decrease levels of triglycerides, another "unhealthy" fat in the blood. See how quickly the fiber adds up with the following foods: 1 cup oatmeal (4 grams), 1/2 cup of raspberries (4 grams), bean soup (9 grams), spinach salad (2 grams), a whole grain baguette (5 grams), and an orange (4 grams)...will get you to 28 grams!
